The Decimal Square's Teacher Guide contains complete teaching information for decimals and percents. There are 4-6 steps for each of the following seven topics: basic concepts; equality; inequality; addition; subtraction; multiplication; and division. Each step or lesson is conveniently placed on two facing pages and all program components such as worksheets games and materials are referenced at point-of-use in each step. Games for use with Decimal Squares and Decimal Playing Cards are contained at the end of this guide. Also at the end of the Guide are black and white masters for reproducible materials and a sequence of activities relating decimals to fractions. | |||||||||||||||
Each set of 57 washable plastic Decimal Squares contains squares for tenths with 10 equal parts (red); squares for hundredths with 100 equal parts (green); and squares for thousandths with 1000 equal parts (yellow). Decimal Squares are used for the activities and games in the Teacher's Guide. Some teachers like to letter the backs of the squares
one deck with letter A
another deck with letter B
etc. to help in sorting the squares in case they become mixed.

Each Decimal Squares Playing Card in this color-coded 57-card deck contains a decimal and its name which corresponds to one of the Decimal Squares. The colored numeral on the playing card indicates the number of shaded parts in the corresponding square and provides for a gradual transition from the Decimal Squares model to the use of decimal symbolism. As with the decks of squares
it helps to letter the back of the cards for sorting purposes
one deck with letter A
another with B
etc.
