Separate Decimal Squares Items
The following Decimal Squares items are available separately:
Decimal Squares Teacher’s Guide (lessons and games) Deck of Decimal Squares (57 squares) Decimal Squares Playing Cards Decimal Squares Teacher Resource Package (objectives, worksheets, tests, answers) Decimal Squares Overhead Transparencies (72 transparent squares) Decimal Squares Activity Mats (44 mats) Starter Set (mats, squares, guide and markers)

The Decimal Square’s Teacher Guide contains complete teaching information for decimals and percents. There are 46 steps for each of the following seven topics: basic concepts; equality; inequality; addition; subtraction; multiplication; and division. Each step or lesson is conveniently placed on two facing pages, and all program components such as worksheets, games and materials are referenced at pointofuse in each step. Games for use with Decimal Squares and Decimal Playing Cards are contained at the end of this guide. Also at the end of the Guide are black and white masters for reproducible materials and a sequence of activities relating decimals to fractions.
Each set of 57 washable plastic Decimal Squares contains squares for tenths with 10 equal parts (red); squares for hundredths with 100 equal parts (green); and squares for thousandths with 1000 equal parts (yellow). Decimal Squares are used for the activities and games in the Teacher’s Guide. Some teachers like to letter the backs of the squares, one deck with letter A, another deck with letter B, etc. to help in sorting the squares in case they become mixed.
.

Each Decimal Squares Playing Card in this colorcoded 57card deck contains a decimal and its name which corresponds to one of the Decimal Squares. The colored numeral on the playing card indicates the number of shaded parts in the corresponding square and provides for a gradual transition from the Decimal Squares model to the use of decimal symbolism. As with the decks of squares, it helps to letter the back of the cards for sorting purposes, one deck with letter A, another with B, etc.
.

The Teacher Resource Package correlates directly with the seven sections in the Teacher’s Guide. Each section of the package contains Reproducible Worksheets, Performance Objectives, and Performance Tests. An Achievement Test at the end of the worksheets provides evaluation of all seven sections of the program. This test can be used to determine placement in the program or as assessment once the worksheets and/or program are completed.
.
There are 72 colored Decimal Squares Transparencies. There is a transparency corresponding to each plastic Decimal Square and there are extra blank colored transparencies for shading. The transparencies can be used for teacher or student demonstrations of decimal equalities, inequalities, and the four basic operations on decimals. One method for organizing the transparencies for classroom demonstrations and storage is to form a Posterboard Holder.
.
The Decimal Squares Activity Mats are all the mats necessary for games and activities in the Decimal Squares Teacher’s Guide. The complete set includes 30 Decimal Squares Bingo Mats, 7 Number Lines Mats, and 7 of the Decimal Squares SpeedwayDecimal Squares Racing Mats. The activities and games for these mats help to provide for a gradual nonthreatening transition from the concrete level to the abstract level with decimal symbolism and rules for computing.
